G SEED Special edition: What better way to fuck up a series?
With the raging success of Gundam SEED (in god's name... why? It sucked until the second half), Bandai decided to make three compilation movies, similar to what they did for 0079, and what they are currently working on for Zeta. I guess, technically, it's an OVA, so it can't really be compared to the Zeta and 0079 trilogies. This OVA seems to be a way for Fukuda to go back and, unlike what the normal, logical mind would come up with, completely fuck up whatever wasn't fucked up in the series. And speaking of fucking, one instance in particular stood out above all.
First off, Fllay was a bitch right from the start, or at least ever since her father died, which pretty much was the start anyway. Fllay scenes that didn't involve the audience wishing death upon her were few and far between, and scenes that actually showed her as a nice, loving, caring girl were a thousand times more rare.
One of the few scenes in which this occured happened shortly after Kira failed to protect the civilian shuttle. After the battle, he felt sad about this, and cried about it. Fllay, witnessing this, quickly rushed over to his aid, comfoting him in her arms. When I saw this, I couldn't help but see it as a display of total compassion, caring, and lovingness; the kind of thing I would look for in a girlfriend.
Or, at least that's how it seems in the series. But in Special Edition, Fukuda promptly shows his true form, and totally screws that whole thing up with a sex scene between the two of them immediately following, sacrificing character development for his own agenda and/or fanservice. Honestly, the only thing this scene did was fuck up one of the only things I liked about Fllay, and make me all the more await her violent death. She doesn't really care about Kira, apparently; she just wanted his cock, and at the same time, she screws over Sai, to whom, at the time, she was STILL FUCKING ENGAGED.
The Kira x Fllay relationship was bullshit to begin with. Kira fucks over his best friend and steals his fiancee, and now all of a sudden he's the good guy? He's the Gundam pilot, so he can get whatever he wants? Since fucking when? It's original, yes, but there's a reason why nobody's used the idea before: it's shit. This new scene just makes an annoying, shallow, loveless, shitty relationship all the more annoying, shallow, loveless, and shitty.
Ooh, Kira and Fllay are having sex. Wow, they've got an amazing relationship. Brilliant. Big hand to Fukuda for being so creative. I mean, I can only imagine the thought that must have gone into such a fresh idea. Look out, Tomino, watch your Kamille and Four be dwindled by Fukuda's rendition of an all-too-typical teenage relationship which by all rights should last two days. Look out, Shinji Takamatsu, Garrod and Tiffa, the cutest couple ever, is nothing compared to a sexual relationship between a bitchy slut and an emo kid who (at the time) can't fight to save his ass. The closest Gundam has ever come to suggesting sexual relations between a couple is when a girl would get pregnant, and the girl was, except for in one case (Beltorchika's Children, although that could've been fixed with nothing more than notepad - change "Irma" to "Rei"), married. Although there was the Bright affair in ZZ; that pissed me off too (so don't accuse me of being "HOLYFUCKINGSHIT SIEG UC!!!!!!11111" just because I'm on a SEED rant).
So was it Fukuda's agenda or just fanservice? Either way, it's bullshit. If I wanted to see that shit I'd watch hentai (I don't).
